The awards were presented by Michelle Mattson Headley, Michigan Migrant Consultant with the Michigan Department of Education, highlighting their exceptional dedication and service.

Juanita Robles – Hartford Public Schools

Juanita Robles, a devoted member of the Hartford Public Schools Migrant Program, was honored with the Data Specialist Impact Award for her unwavering commitment and outstanding service.

For decades, Juanita has been the cornerstone of the Hartford Migrant Education Program, excelling as a data entry specialist and recruiter. Currently serving as a summer data entry specialist and program secretary, she is regarded as an irreplaceable asset to the program.

Colleagues describe Juanita as “well-loved by students, staff, and families” and an organizational powerhouse who ensures the program operates seamlessly. Beyond her official responsibilities, she contributes in countless ways—assisting with the school store, coordinating field trips and family events, and volunteering extra hours for community outreach.

Her profound knowledge of the migrant education program, coupled with her heartfelt dedication, has earned her immense respect and admiration across the Hartford community. The heartfelt nomination statement captured her impact:

“We are truly grateful for Juanita’s service and dedication to the students, staff, and families of Hartford Public Schools. It is an honor to recognize her contributions with this award.”

Jose Nolasco – Van Buren ISD

Jose Nolasco was presented with the prestigious Shining Star Award for his exceptional recruitment efforts and expertise in MSIX, the national migrant database.

Jose’s career in migrant education spans more than 20 years, beginning as a recruiter in Texas before bringing his expertise to Michigan in 2014. Over the past nine years, he has contributed significantly to the success of recruitment programs at Coloma Public Schools, Bangor Public Schools, and the Van Buren ISD.

A trusted expert in connecting with Out-of-School Youth (OSYs), Jose has played a pivotal role in enhancing recruitment within this challenging demographic. His willingness to assist other districts in recruiting OSYs has earned him a reputation as a dependable and dedicated team member.

Beyond recruitment, Jose’s dedication is evident in his four years as a bus driver, a role in which he supported migrant families directly. Since rejoining Van Buren ISD in 2022, he has become a vital part of the Multilingual/Migrant department, cementing his role as a key contributor.

Colleagues admire Jose for his determination and impact, noting that he consistently “goes the extra mile to support families.” His contributions have left an enduring legacy within the migrant education community.

This celebration highlights the invaluable work of Juanita Robles and Jose Nolasco, whose dedication continues to uplift migrant students, families, and communities across Van Buren County.
