Celebrating Tonda Boothby: A Legacy of Dedication and Compassion
On September 11th at 3 PM, the Van Buren Intermediate School District (VBISD) community gathered to honor two remarkable individuals, Barb Matthews and Tonda Boothby, during the Pathway Recognition Ceremony. This event was a heartfelt tribute to their decades of service and dedication.
Honoring Tonda Boothby
Tonda Boothby, who served the VBISD from 1974 to 2024, is celebrated for her unparalleled commitment and compassion. While she held various roles throughout her tenure, she is most fondly remembered for her time as the Administrator of Multilingual/Migrant Services. Her 50 school years mark the longest tenure of any VBISD employee, a testament to her enduring dedication.
A Journey of Excellence
Tonda’s educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kalamazoo College. She furthered her expertise with a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and a bilingual education endorsement from the University of Michigan-Flint. Her academic achievements laid a strong foundation for her impactful career.
A Champion for Multilingual Learners and Migrant Families
Throughout her tenure, Tonda served the VBISD in various capacities, but she will be most fondly remembered for her role as the Administrator of Multilingual/Migrant Services. Her dedication to multilingual learners and migrant families was unmatched, and her efforts have left an indelible mark on the community. Tonda’s accomplishments in the field are too numerous to list, but her impact will be felt for decades to come.
A Lasting Tribute
To commemorate Tonda’s contributions, a plaque will be placed, and a tree will be planted along the VBISD pathway. This living tribute symbolizes her lasting impact on the Multilingual/Migrant Community. Additionally, Tonda received a Special Tribute from the state of Michigan, signed by various State Representatives and Senators, expressing gratitude for her profound impact on the community.
