Staff Spotlight: Maria Hernandez

Maria Hernandez has been an integral part of the VBISD Migrant program for the past three summers. Serving on our home team, she provides vital instruction in the camps and aids with recruitment throughout the school year. Maria visits migrant camps to help families register for the summer program, showcasing her exceptional organizational skills and efficiency. Her contributions are especially noteworthy during our Multilingual and Migrant Parent Engagement Meetings, where she organizes engaging activities for children, contacts families, and coordinates meals.

Maria’s favorite aspect of working with the Migrant Program is visiting the camps and encouraging students to attend school. In addition to her summer role, Maria has served as a Communication Specialist for VBISD for three years, providing translation and interpretation services for families. Before joining VBISD, she worked as a Bilingual Paraprofessional at Lawrence Public Schools.

Maria is also pursuing her teaching degree, and in her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, reading, and gardening. Her dedication and skills make her a fantastic asset to our program!
